Masterda Surya Sen Hall golden jubilee Jan 28
The golden jubilee of Masterda Surya Sen Hall of Dhaka University (DU) will be held on January 28, 2017.
The decision was taken at a meeting with convenor of the golden jubilee celebration committee and provost of the hall Prof Maksud Kamal in the chair.
After a threadbare discussion at the Senate Building on the university campus, the golden jubilee celebration committee launched a website titled www.surjasenhalldu.com last night in this regard. Vice-chancellor of the university AAMS Arefin Siddique, who was present as the chief guest at the function, formally inaugurated the website.
Prime Minister's Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the Industries Ministry Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, Senior Secretary of the Water Resources Ministry Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan, Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain and renowned IT expert Mustafa Jabbar were present at the programme. 
The meeting decided to unveil the bust of Masterda Surja Sen on the hall premises, make a documentary about the history of the dormitory and life and works of Surja Sen and publish a souvenir in this respect. Among others, Masterda Surja Sen Hall Alumni Association (MSSHAA) convener Sirajum Munir, joint secretary of golden jubilee calibration committee Babul Chowdury, Faruk Ahmed and M Siraj Uddin took part in the discussion. The meeting formed different sub-committees to celebrate the golden jubilee function smoothly.

Prize giving ceremony held  
Banaphool Adibashi Green Heart College organised a freshers’ reception and prize giving ceremony of the annual sports and cultural competitions on Saturday, says a press release. 
Founder and Chairman of the College governing body Ven Prajnananda Mahathera presided over the programme. Secretary to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs and the Chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board Naba Bikram Kishore Tripura was the chief guest. Rector of the Banaphool Adibashi Green Heart College Professor Tarun Kanti Barua delivered the welcome address, General Secretary of the Banophool Adibashi Foundation Trust Prosenjit Chakma delivered the greetings speech and Acting Principal of the college Sudip Kumar Mandal delivered the closing speech at the ceremony.  Departmental heads, teachers and a large number of students, guardians attended the colorful arrangements. Later, crests and prizes were distributed among the winners. 

Int’l confce on environment held
Institute Environment Science (IES) organised a two-day international conference on Rajshahi University (RU) campus began on Saturday title on ‘Botanical Pesticides & Environmental Sustainability’.
RU vice chancellor Prof Muhammed Mizan Uddin inaugurated the conference at the university senate building on Saturday. RU Pro-VC Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan and Treasurer Sayen Uddin were addressed as the special guests in the inaugural ceremony. IES director and convener of conference convening committee Prof Sultanul Islam was in the chair. About two hundred research papers on the issues of pesticides, air pollution, climate change, sustainable environment & development, and  bio-active compound and anti-microbial agents will be present into sixes academic sessions of this two-days long conference.

ISLM dept celebrates 1st reunion at RU
The Department Information Science and Library Management celebrated its first reunion programme on the Rajshahi University (RU) campus on Saturday.
To mark the day the department organised daylong programmes, including rally, discussion meeting, seminar, raffle draw, exhibition and cultural events.
RU vice chancellor Muhammed Mizan Uddin as chief guest inaugurated the function.
VC said ISLM Department is a vital discipline in RU. Over 25 years, the department has been made significant contributions to research and higher education in the country concerned. Pro-VC Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Social Science faculty dean Faizur Rahman were present the programme as special guests. 
Five students received ‘Merit Scholarship’ and 10 students got ‘Student Welfare Scholarship’ in the function. These scholarships have been funded from the own source of the department, according to the programme.
