Two Jamaat leaders held in Rangpur

RANGPUR: Two leaders of Jamaat-E-Islami of Bangladesh were arrested from a secret meeting at a house in village Hariram Pirojpur under Sadar upazila in the district yesterday morning, police source said, reports BSS.

The arrested persons are: Ameer of Rangpur city unit of Jamaat Nur Hussaine, 61, son of late Nasir Uddin of Kamarpara area and Sadar upazila unit Ameer Lokman Hossain, 58, son of Alhaj Hossain Ali of Babu Khan area in the city.
A special police squad from Kotwali Thana, on a tip off, conducted a raid and arrested the two Jamaat leaders while they were conducting a secret meeting in the house for conducting subversive activities.
However, other participants of the meeting, managed to escape the scene sensing police presence.
Police had been trying for long to arrest the two absconding Jamaat leaders.
“The arrested Jamaat leaders were charge sheeted in several cases filed against them under the Anti-terrorism Act for hurling petrol bombs and conducting subversive activities,”OC of Kotwali Thana said.
