AL LEADER FARUK MURDER

Two more accused sent to jail

Our Correspondent, Tangail

Two more charge-sheeted accused in the Awami League leader FF Farook Ahmed murder case were sent to jail yesterday. They are Nasir Uddin Nuru and ex-councillor of Tangail Municipality, Masudur Rahman Masud.
Ashok Kumar Singha, officer-in-charge (OC) of the Detective Branch (DB) of Tangail police and investigation officer (IO) of the case, said the two had surrendered before the court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Abul Monsur Mia, and sought bail. After hearing, the court rejected their bail plea and sent them to jail.
Earlier, the prime accused in the case, Alhaj Amanur Rahman Rana, MP from the Tangail-3 (Ghatail) constituency, surrendered before the same court. He, too, was sent to jail after his bail prayer was rejected. He is now in Kashimpur Jail.
Farook Ahmed was murdered on the night of January 18, 2013, near his residence at College Para in Tangail town. Nahar Ahmed, his wife, lodged a complaint with Tangail Model Police Station, three days after the incident.
The case was handed over to the DB, which arrested Anisur Islam, alias Raja, and Mohammad Ali, close associates of Rana, in August 2014. The two gave confessional statements before the court, under Section 164. Rana and his four brothers were indicted in the murder case.
After investigation, the police submitted charge-sheets against 14, including
Rana, his three brothers, Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti, ex-mayor of Tangail Municipality, transport and business leader Zahudur Rahman Khan Kakon, and former BCL vice-president Saniat Khan Bappa, on February 3, 2016.
The court accepted the charge-sheets on April 6 and issued arrest warrants against the 10 absconding accused. The court also ordered confiscation of properties of the absconding accused. The police confiscated their properties on May 20. The court also published notices in newspapers, directing them to appear before the court. The court has fixed September 29 as the date of framing of charges.
