Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha wants the team to get into the winning mood by overcoming the uncertainty which created after a long gap from the international cricket.
How the Bangladesh will fare is the burning question as they are going to play the ODI cricket after 10 months. Moreover they haven’t been in international cricket for six months, after playing the ICC World T20 in February-March.
Hathurusingha cited the ‘long gap’ as the only Achilles’ Heel for them but was confident that skill-wise Bangladesh have no shortcomings. The shrewd tactician however said that the first match and specially the first hour would be vital for them to set the tune.
“The main focus is to win three ODIs against another national team. As we are playing after a long time, is a bit of an Achilles’ Heel for us. That is what we are trying to get over, that uncertainty. The first match is very vital for us. The first hour is vital for us. It is important that we start well, so the focus is all about winning the first game,” Hathurusingha said.
“We have no concern over any skill part – batting, bowling or fielding. It is all about the mental side of the game – getting into the game, playing in front of a crowd for your country. We played so many practice matches with the top 25 players in the country. You cannot create that atmosphere. Probably we play a higher level of cricket but you cannot create that atmosphere of playing another international team,” he added.
“I would like to think so, but no. We just have to get into a winning mood, we want to win every match we want to play for Bangladesh here.”
Heaping an enormous praise on Afghanistan, he rather stated, “We take this as a really important series, not as a practice or anything like that. Afghanistan is a strong team. They have upset many good teams on the world stage. We take them very seriously, we prepare for them as we would prepare for any other team.”
“Just because Al-Amin is not here does not mean he is finished. If we were playing a different team it would have been a different scenario. We are giving the captain the best form of attack, different variety. He has done well in the past, and when Shafiul is fit, he is as good as anyone as well. We are giving Shafiul two games to see what he can do.”
He is also ecstatic about Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, a newbie who made his way on his merit. The coach however made it clear why Arafat Sunny wasn’t in the team when Taskin made room after both of them were cleared by ICC.
