SYLHET: The dormitory of MC College in Sylhet will be reopened for the students on October 1 this year, nearly four years after the fire incident that burnt it severely, reports UNB.
Nitai Chandra, principle of the college, said some 244 students of the college have been selected for accommodation in the dormitory in accordance with their merit.
The students will start living in the residential hall on October 1, the principle added.
In 2012, a gang of miscreants torched the dormitory after a clash between leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Islami Chhatra Shibir. Some 42 rooms of the three blocks of the dormitory were burnt completely while some others were partially damaged. On December 5, 2012, Finance Minister AMA Muhith and Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated the renovation work of the dormitory involving Tk4.58 crore. Later, the renovation process was completed on October 14, 2014. However, the college authorities could not reopen the hall as Jalalabad Gas Transmission & Distribution System Ltd cut off its gas connection due to Tk nine lakh outstanding bill.
