Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali yesterday handed over the ‘Instrument of Ratification’ of the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the UN Headquarters in New York, UNB reports.Bangladesh is one of the first countries that has ratified this agreement, said a foreign ministry press release.
It reflects the firm commitment of Bangladesh and the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in addressing climate change adversities, said the ministry.
This also places Bangladesh in a strong position in global climate change negotiations, particularly in the areas like mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage, finance and technology transfer.
Bangladesh earlier signed this landmark agreement on April 22 last. The agreement was adopted in Paris in 2015.
