A movie based on the ‘Operation Jackpot’ of the 1971 Liberation War will be produced with the government support, reports UNB.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan revealed this at a movie premiere at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation recently.
He said the primary preparation has already begun for the film. The gala premiere of the film will be held on the Independence Day next year, he said.
Shajahan Khan said some 101 port workers and employees were shot to death on the night of March 25, 1971 but noting was done to remember them even after so many years of the independence.
He said his first job will be to build a memorial and museum for the film on the ‘Operation Jackpot’.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq who were also present at the programme said they would lend their support for the movie.
During the Liberation War in 1971, the Bangali naval commandos within a very short period of time were able to apprise the world of the course of warfare by undertaking various operations.
The first operation launched by the naval commandos on August 15, 1971 is known as ‘Operation Jackpot’. On this night, the naval commandos launched attack simultaneously on the ports of Mongla, Chittagong, Chandpur, Narayanganj, and drowned 26 gunboats of the Pak army carrying commodities, arms and ammunitions.
