Cabinet body okays construction of 798 flats for public servants

The Cabinet Purchase Committee yesterday approved seven proposals to award contracts for building some 798 apartments for public servants in the city’s Mirpur area, reports UNB.
Housing and Public Works Ministry selected several contractors to construct seven 20-storey buildings for the apartments. Each of the skyscrapers will have six units in each floor to accommodate a total of 114 apartments from 1st floor and 19th one.
These 798 flats will be constructed as part of a housing project undertaken by the Housing and Public Works Ministry to build a total of 1064 apartments of two different sizes for the public servants.  Some of the apartments will be of 1500 square feet each while others of 1250 square feet each.
Earlier, similar contracts were awarded to local contractors to build some buildings for other apartments.
The cabinet body approved the proposals in a meeting held with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair.
As per the approval, Kusholi Nirmata Limited won contracts for two buildings—Building-1 at a contract value of Tk 71.41 crore and Building-10 at Tk 79.30 crore. 
Each of the flats in Building-1 will be 1250 sqf in size while each in Building-10 will be of 1500 sqf.
A joint venture of Jamal and Company-Hasan & Sons won the contract for Building-3 at a cost of 71.57 crore. Each of the flats will be of 1250 sqf in size.
A joint venture of Masood and Company-Jamal & Company was given the contract for Building-4 at a cost of Tk 71.12 crore. Each flat will be 1250 sqf in size.
Mazid Sons Construction Ltd won the contract of Building-5 at a cost of Tk 71.13 (1250 sqf each flat) while Jamal & Company won the contract for Building-6 at a cost of Tk 80.63 crore (1500 sqf each flat).
National Development Engineering Ltd won the contract of Building-9 at a contract value of Tk 79.30 crore. Each of the flats in the building will be 1500 sqf in size.
The Cabinet body also approved a proposal of the same ministry to enhance the cost of the under-construction project by Tk 34.41 crore to build a 20-storey skyscraper at Kakrail for Supreme Court judges.
