Trader robbed of Tk 2 lakh

Muggers snatched away Tk2 lakh from a jute trader after stabbing him near Suro Bridge in Sadar upazila of Jessore on Tuesday night.
The victim is Abdur Rashid, 42, a jute trader and a resident of Kutubput village of the upazila. Local people said Rashid was returning home from Suro Bazar by a bicycle around 11:30pm.
When they reached near Suro Bridge, a gang of criminals swooped on him, stabbed him indiscriminately and took away the money from his possession. He was admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital.

Housewife found dead 
HABIGANJ: Police recovered the body of a housewife from Lalpur village under Bahubal upazila yesterday afternoon, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Anita Rani, wife of Anjan Chandra Pal, a resident of the same village.
Being informed, a team of police rushed to the spot and recovered the body from a pond of the village. The body was later sent to Habiganj Modern Hospital morgue.
“We are conducting investigation into the matter to know whether it is suicide or murder,” said OC M Munir Hossain.

Brick mason electrocuted
JHENAIDAH: A brick mason was electrocuted at Aguniapara village in Shailkupa upazila yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Raju Ahamed, 35, a resident of Hasanipita village of the upazila. Police and hospital sources said Raju was seriously injured as he got electric shock while he was working at a constructed building at the village. Raju was sent to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex where he died yesterday afternoon.

Woman held with 800 Yaba pills

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an alleged female drug peddler along with 800 pieces of Yaba tablet from Dighirpar area yesterday morning.
The arrestee was identified as Rekha Khatun, 35, wife of Asadul, a resident of the area. Major Liakot, deputy commander of BGB Battalion-26, said tipped off, a team of the border force conducted a raid on the house of Asadul at about 7.00am. Later, the border force arrested Rekha while his husband Asadul managed to flee the scene.
BGB members also recovered 800 pieces of Yaba after searching the house.

Seed distributed among farmers 
SHARIATPUR: Department of Agriculture and Extension (DAE) started distribution of seeds and fertilisers among the flood affected farmers in the district yesterday under its Agriculture Rehabilitation Programme, reports BSS.
Deputy Director of DAE M Kabir Hossain inaugurated the distribution programme on Sadar UNO office premises as the chief guest.  Each of the farmers got one kg seeds, 20 kg DAP, 10 kg muriate of potash (MoP) for cultivating one bigha of land.
The department will distribute seeds and fertilisers among 2,500 farmers in five upazilas of the district.
