A court here on Tuesday convicted a former principal of a madrasah and sentenced him to three years rigorous imprisonment for fraud.
Abdul Jalil, former principal of Kota Senior Fazil Madrasah and son of late Abu Taleb of Payra village in Abhaynagar upazila, was also fined Tk 2,24,841, and in default, to serve one year more imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Abdul Jalil along with assistant teacher Omar Ali of the madrasah prepared false salary sheets of ten years worth Tk 2,29,000 in the name of six teachers. The duo withdrew the money and misappropriated it.
On information, Assistant Director of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) SMA Latif filed a case with Abhaynagar Police Station on November 17, 2000.
Later, Another Assistant Director Aminur Rahman submitted chargesheets against the duo on January 25, 2012.
However, during the investigation process, Omar Ali died.
After examining all documents, Special Judge of the district Netai Chandra Shaha handed down the verdict.
