Nahid for flourishing welfare oriented knowledge
RAJSHAHI: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, here yesterday said utmost emphasis should be given on flourishing of welfare and development oriented knowledge for overall development of the nation.
"We have to reflect the knowledge of creativity everywhere in the present era of globalisation of understanding," he said.
The minister was distributing "Agrani Bank Gold Medal" among sixty-four graduates of Rajshahi University (RU) for their outstanding academic performances in honours and masters levels at RU Senate building as the chief guest.
On the occasion, three students of Philosophy also received "Dr Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed Gold Medal" for their excellent academic performances in masters while top performer of the MBBS programme receive "Dr AK Khan Gold Medal".
With Vice-chancellor of RU Professor Md Mijanuddin in the chair, Pro-VC Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan and Registrar Prof Entajul Haque also spoke.
Nahid said formulation of time-fitting course-curriculum side by side its proper application and maintaining quality education in the higher seats of learning has become an urgent need to face the challenges of the current century.
Listing the present government's development planning and activities in education sector he said the government is pledged bound to transform the public universities into centers of excellence.
He urged all concerned to come forward and work together to supplement the government endeavor.
The minister mentioned that the government provides funds to the public universities from the public money. So, the university authorities should have obligation for the highest and proper uses of the funds.
He urged the medal-recipients to come forward towards taking the challenges of building modern Bangladesh in the 21st century.
CMC celebrates 60th founding anniversary
CHITTAGONG: Chittagong Medical College (CMC) celebrated its 60th founding anniversary amid festivity and fanfare on Tuesday.
The day-long celebration began at 9am with a colourful procession on the campus which was followed by rally, discussion meeting, reception function, traditional 'mejban', raffle draw and cultural programmes.
General Secretary of city Awami League and City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin addressed the function as chief guest while Principal of CMC professor Dr Selim Mohammad Jahangir presided over the discussion and reception programme.
Earlier, AJM Nasir Uddin formally inaugurated the function by releasing balloons.
A colourful rally started from the CMCH field and concluded at the same venue after parading different important roads.
Besides, seven prominent individuals -- Freedom Fighter Dr Shah Alam (posthumous), Prof Dr Pran Gopal Datta, Prof Dr L A Quaderi, former Minister Dr Afsarul Amin, Dr Mozzammel Hoque, Dr Boddiuzzaman Bhuiyan and Professor Dr M A Foyez -- were honoured in different categories in recognition of their respective contributions to the society.
Central organising secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Dr Faisal Iqbal Chowdhury conducted the function while Dr Mujibul Huq Khan, president of Bangladesh Medical Association, Chittagong district unit, General Secretary of BMA Dr Mohammad Sharif and director of CMCH Brigadier General Mohammad Jalal Uddin, among others, addressed the inaugural function.
The medical college hospital started its journey in 1957 with 120 beds. It was upgraded to a 500-bed hospital in 1969 and it became a 1313-bed hospital in 2013, hospital sources said.
NU admission process begins Sept 25
Admission process into first year honors course for the academic session 2016-2017 in different colleges under National University (NU) will begins from September 25.
A total of 3.5 lakh students could admit in this session while the classes of first year students will start from November 15, said a NU press release.
The decision was come yesterday following a general meeting held at the Vice-chancellor (VC)’s office on NU campus in Gazipur with its VC Professor Dr. Harun-or-Rashid in the chair.
NU Pro-VC Professor Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Hasan Babu, Treasurer Professor Md. Numan-ur-Rashid, all deans, exam controller, Registrar and the director of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) joined the meeting, among others.
IU B Ed, M Ed admission test Sept 23
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: The admission test for the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Masters of Education (M.Ed) courses of session of 2016-17 under the Institute of Islamic Education and Research (IIER) of the Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia will be held on September 23.
Director of IIER Prof Dr M Maher Ali said 82 candidates are going to appear in the admission test for B.Ed course against 75 seats while 68 aspirants are going to appear in the admission test for M.Ed course against 50 seats.
Preparations have already been completed to hold the tests, he added. Detail information of the admission tests is available on the universitywebsite www.iu.ac.bd.
