Habibur Rahman takes charge of Dhaka WASA
Dr M Habibur Rahman, Professor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), has taken charge of the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA) as its chairman, said a press release on Tuesday.
Dr M Habibur Rahman, noted international water expert, acted as pro-vice-chancellor of BUET.
BAF deploys UN contingents in Haiti
Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) contingent on Tuesday flew to Haiti to replace an existing detachment there as part of UN peacekeeping mission in the country.
A total 110 member contingents was led by Group Captain M Khair-ul-Afsar, PSC, an ISPR statement said in Dhaka on Tuesday. The statement said a special munajat was offered at BAF Base Bashar at Dhaka Cantonment seeking excellence of the contingents in the missions in future. An UN-chartered aircraft carried them to Haiti, where they would join the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), added the press release.
‘Drug peddler’ held with yaba tablets in Ctg
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested a drug peddler with 3000 pieces of yaba tablets from city’s Ekkilometer area under Chandgaon thana on Monday.
The arrested person was identified as Mohammad Sohel, 19, son of Mohammad Oliullah, hailed from Teqnaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar district. On a tip-off, a team of Chandgaon thana police detained the drug peddler in front of Mohona Community Centre of Ekkilometer area under Chandgaon thana and recovered the contraband drugs from his possession, police said. A case was filed with Chandgaon Thana under Narcotics Control Act in this regard.
Five shop owners fined for selling adulterated foods
Armed Police Battalion (APBN) has expedited drives against selling of substandard and adulterated food and other consumer items and fined owners of five shops Tk 1, 50,000 in the metropolis.
APBN in cooperation with a team of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted the drive in different areas including Rampur and Malibag in the capital. A team of APBN-5 led by assistant police super M Saidur Rahman and DNCRP Assistant Director Abdur Jabbar Mondal conducted the drives and fined five shops including two hotels on charges of possessing and selling substandard, unhygienic and date expired items together with violation of the country’s laws. They realized Taka 1, 50,000 as fines from five shops. They said the drive will continue against the adulterated food items.
JS committee on public accounts meets
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts on Tuesday recommended settlement of 24 audit objections of Agrani Bank Limited quickly through the taking decision of the meeting.
The committee made the recommendation in its 55th meeting at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban in Dhaka with its chairman Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir in the chair, an official release said. Committee members AKM Maidul Islam, M Abdus Shahid, M Shamsul Haq Tuku, Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal, and Begum Rebecca Momin attended the meeting. Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Masud Ahmed, Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir and senior officials of Agrani Bank and parliament secretariat were present.
