A man, who suffered burns injuries in an arson attack by his teenage son at his house following his denial to buy him a new model motorcycle at Kamlapur in Faridpur town last week, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as ATM Rafiqul Alam Pintu, 48, a resident of the area. He was the younger brother of former Election Commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda, said local sources.
Partha Shankar Paul, resident surgeon of the burn unit confirmed it to The Independent. Rafiqul, who received 95 per cent burn injuries, died at the burn unit of DMCH around 9am.
Earlier on September 15, Mugdho, son of the deceased, demanded a motorcycle from Rafiqul. When Rafiqul denied buying the motorcycle, Mugdho locked an altercation with him. At one stage, he set fire to Rafiqul’s house by pouring petrol, leaving Rafiqul critically burnt.
