A group of teachers-students of Mass Communication & Journalism (MCJ) Department at the Rajshahi University (RU) demanded proper investigation into the suicide incident of Akhter Jahan Jolly, 42, an associate professor of the department.
They urged the police administration to identify the person who forced to commit her suicide attempt. The made the demand from a post-rally human chain programme. About hundred of RU teachers-students joined the event held at in front of central library yesterday morning. Speakers said Prof Jolly‘s death is an unacceptable matter. So find out the person through the proper investigation who forced her to commit suicide and brought him to book.
Department teacher Prof Kazi Mamun Haider, Dr Md Mozammel Hossen Bakul, ABM Saiful Islam, Atikur Rahman and others students spoke on while third year student Ali Hussain Mithu conducted the programme.
It is noted that Jolly was found dead in room No 303 of teachers’ residential block, Jubery Bhaban, on the campus on September 9 afternoon. A suicidal note was also found in her room. The following day a case was filed with Motihar Police Station.
