In a generation like ours, it’s quite hard to find someone who isn’t attached to internet or cell-phone. I mean, seriously! Have you ever sat in a waiting room and saw people not looking at the screen of their cell-phone? No, I don’t think so. Magazines have been replaced and so has actual socializing.
Not saying it’s bad, if it weren’t for the social networks it’d be impossible to keep in touch with people we don’t regularly see but at the same time want to stay connected. As for example, school buddies or childhood friends. But, making your whole life existence virtual is not a good thing at all. Socialize, update your status, tweet, see what your mates and buddies been up to but do it in a realistic kind of way.
If you’re questioning about what I’m actually trying to say, then let me point out some things to make some sense. We have all been in that point, where it seemed “cool” to update a Facebook status on emotional stuff. No, stop right there. This is not cool. This, matter of fact is not appropriate. Let it be your diary to express these kind of thoughts, think about it, isn’t it your own business only? Sure, if it’s not suppose to be personal then write about it. Just keep it in mind that not everybody in that friend list of yours is your actual friends. Then, there’s the concern about your Facebook friend list. Adding up mutual friends is okay, but to some limits, it’s not actually okay. Do you really want a complete stranger to look at your photos and updates? Think a little before it’s too late. Coming to the new trend : selfies! Its kinda cool to post a group selfie when you’re out with friends or on a reunion. But, posting your single selfies every day with deep, deep quotes? No. It’s not cool, my friend. Rather than that, it’s annoying. Nobody is willing to see your selfies with duck faces and gonna double tap even if it is on Instagram. But, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take selfies anymore, just be normal with it.
When it comes to socializing, don’t forget one thing; never judge people through comments. You don’t want cyber enemies now, do you? Some may take it as nothing, others can harm you. Keeping that in mind, try to stay on the safe zone. Nothing can be 100 per cent safe online. So, playing it cool is kind of a solution to it.
As for other social networks, let’s talk about “ask.fm” shall we? It’s become quite famous within such a short notice, hasn’t it? It’s Kinda fun, when you can ask anyone anything without being concerned about the identity. Well, that’s fun but its not that fun putting whole information out there without knowing who’s gonna read and stalk you down. Online stalkers are the worst ones. Their whole life is dedicated to who’s been up to what, where and how(s). Who’s dating who, where people are having parties etc. You might think, who even has the time for all this? But, trust me, there are some creeps out there.
Lastly, your cell-phone number. Never, ever, I mean, EVER fall for the trap of giving your number to anyone unless it’s for some reasonable cause. Social networks like Whatsapp, Viber, Line etc require cell-phone numbers. Be connected with these apps only with the ones close to you.
Reading this, maybe some of you had a negative idea that I’m trying to be judgmental or cool. No, actually I just tried to point out some of things most of us can’t realize being too young. Maybe ten years from now, you’ll realize these things on your own, but at that time it won’t matter anymore. So, try to stay conscious of your activities on the internet. I’m not against social networks; rather than that, I think it’s a wonderful way to stay connected, find friends, gain knowledge and being updated about what’s happening around us. But, safety comes first, you know? Being a little conscious won’t be that much of a burden! Cheers !
