Dhaka thinks the North East connectivity summit, set to begin in the Indian State of Tripura on Thursday, will help strengthen ‘economic and strategic’ ties between Bangladesh and India, reports UNB.

The two-day summit, titled ‘Connect North East’, will be held at the Pragna Bhawan in Agartala, the capital of Indian State of Tripura, on Thursday and Friday.
Tripura government and Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) will jointly host the event.
Apart from focusing on improving connectivity in the region, this year the summit will also highlight the opportunities in international trade and commerce, FICCI said in a press release.
It will seek improved connectivity, especially with countries like Bangladesh which is a “strategic partner” for not only the North East but the whole of India, the trade body said.
Among other issues, the summit will have a major focus on development of international trade and commerce of North Eastern states, including Assam, improving connectivity with Bangladesh and other neighbouring countries with a special emphasis on developing connectivity in border areas, the release added.
