The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 yesterday set October 31 for submitting formal charge against Jatiya Party lawmaker MA Hannan and seven others from Mymensingh, accepting a time plea from the prosecution, reports BSS.
Justice Anwarul Haque, chairman of the three-member panel of the ICT-1, passed the order as prosecutors Jahid Imam and Rezia Sultana Chemon pleaded for time.
“We are yet to finish the job of preparing the formal charge and that is why we pleaded for time,” said prosecutor Chemon.
Apart from Hannan, the other accused are Hannan’s son Rafique Sajjad, 62, Khandakar Golam Sabbir Ahmed, 69, Mizanur Rahman Mintu, 63, Hormuj Ali, 73, Mohammad Abdus Sattar, 64, Mohammad Fakruzzaman, 61, and Khandakar Golam Rabbani, 63. Of these, Fakruzzaman, Sattar and Rabbani are still on the run.
The investigation agency of the ICT on July 11, 2016, finalised their probe report against the eight, bringing five charges of crimes against humanity against the accused. The ICT probe body submitted the report to the prosecution.
