Mentioning that many people in the country cannot afford better treatment, President Abdul Hamid yesterday urged physicians to provide better treatment to patients at a low-cost, reports UNB.
"We need to keep in mind many people of the country cannot afford better treatment. This is why step has to be taken to arrange better treatment for them with lesser expenses," he said. The President said this while addressing the inauguration of the 3rd international Scientific Conference-2016, arranged by Bangladesh Society of Cardiovascular Intervention (BSCI) at Hotel Radisson Blue in the capital. Abdul Hamid said, "The contribution of common people is not lesser to take you to your present positions. So you have a great responsibility to society."
"And driven by the responsibility, you’ll have to give a special attention so that the common people are not deprived of medical care. You have to keep in mind it is a basic right of people to avail themselves of medical services," he added.
President Hamid requested doctors to visit their respective villages for a day in a week, or at least for a day in a month, with a view to employing themselves in the treatment of their fellow-villagers. The development of health sector should be demand-based one, consistent with the capacity of the people and modern technology, the President insisted.
Mentioning that the heart disease is one of the major causes of deaths in Bangladesh, and that the death rate due to heart disease is increasing day by day, the President said, "I hope it’s possible to bring down the outbreak of the disease if people are informed about the cause and prevention of the disease."
