3 traffickers held; victim rescued
Members of Cyber Security and Crime Division of DMP’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit on Monday night arrested three human traffickers from Agargaon and Paltan areas and rescued a person believed to be a victim of traffickers’ net. The arrestees are, M Abdul Hai, Mona Miah and Shamsu Miah, said a press release. The anti crime division also seized a mobile phone from their possession. A case was filed with Ramna thana in this connection.

19 arms depots to be built for police
The government has taken a project to construct 19 arms depots for Bangladesh Police involving around Taka 60 crore. ”Nineteen arms depots will be built at 19 units of Bangladesh Police at a cost of Taka 59.80 crore,” Assistant Inspector General (AIG-development) Mozammel Hoque of the police told BSS yesterday. The construction of the depots is expected to be completed by June in 2018, he added. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) gave its node to the development project proforma (DPP) of the project on July 7, 2015. Public Works Department (PWD) has been asked to conduct digital survey and test of the land for building the depots as well as prepare local map.

Tk. 59.63 crore allowances distributed 
The Department of Social Services (DSS) distributed Taka 59.63 as various allowances among 91,281 beneficiaries under the government’s comprehensive social safety net programme in Rangpur during the last fiscal year.
The DSS under the Ministry of Social Welfare distributed the allowances among elderly citizens, disabled people, freedom fighters, physically challenged students, widows and divorces in all eight upazilas in the district.
Under the programme, more than Taka 27.65 was distributed among 57,607 elderly citizens as old age allowance at the rate of Taka 400 per month to assist them leading a better life during the last 2015-2016 fiscal.
Over Taka 5.11 crore was distributed with monthly allowance of Taka 500 among each of the beneficiary 8,518 physically challenged people in all eight upazilas.

Thunderbolt kills farmer 
A farmer was killed on the spot and his father sustained injuries when they were hit by a thunderbolt at Kujishohar village under Tanore Upazila of the district Monday afternoon, locals said.
The deceased was identified as Sujan, 30, son of Ashraful Haque of the same village. Quoting the neighbours Lutfor Haider Rashid Moina, Chairman of Kolma Union Parishad, told the local journalists that they (father and son) fall prey to the thunderbolt when they were returning to home after cutting grass in a nearby field at around 3.30 pm.
Ashraful was given first-aid in Upazila Health Complex.

RMP awareness programme held
An awareness and publicity programme organised by Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) was observed in the city yesterday. 
As a part of the programme, members of RMP brought out awareness rally, distribute leaflets among the mass people and releasing fish fry in the Padma River. 
However, a colorful rally was brought out from Laxmipur intersection led by RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam, BPM that paraded various streets of the city. Later they distributed leaflets.  Sarder Tamizuddin Ahmed, Additional Police Commissioner, Tanvir Haider Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner (Headquarter), Ifte Khayer Alam, Assistant Commissioner of RMP, Kamruzzaman Kamru, Councilor of Ward-5 of RCC and hundreds of police members were also present at the programme.
