General public will have free access to clean drinking water in targeted areas of the city, thanks to Project Trishna.
Footsteps, an NGO, has taken up the project and will offer clean drinking water by setting up water filters. Under the project, people will have free clean drinking water round the clock.
In 2015, Footsteps, with the help of their volunteers, sold and set up over 50 water filtration systems in over 30 locations across Dhaka city.
Some of these filters were set up in Dhaka’s busiest parts like Banasree, Hatirpool, Rampura, Kakrail, Gulshan, Banani, Uttara and many other locations.
Footsteps’ cost-effective water filtration systems guarantee people, especially those belonging to lower income level, over 22 litres of free, clean and easily accessible drinking water each day, said Shah Meem Rafayat Chowdhury, founder and CEO of Footsteps.
He also said private enterprises would maintain these filters as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Sharnila N. Kabir, a member of Footsteps, expressed hope that the involvement of these organisations would encourage other enterprises to join the cause.
Keeping in mind the rising global temperature and dehydration, Footsteps plans to set up more filters in the coming years.
