Hajis suffer at airport as buses play truant

STAFF REPORTER

Pilgrims who have returned home after performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia are facing immense hardships at the Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport. Four flights of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines landed at the Shah Jalal airport with hajis from Saudi Arabia yesterday. Many hajis were seen at the airport waiting with their luggage for hours for Hajj Kafella buses, but the coaches had not reached the airport even two hours after the flights landed.  “We’re waiting here for two hours. But we’re yet to see our Muallem Nurunnabi,” hajis of Jessore and Jhinaidah told this correspondent.  The BG6014 flight landed around 10am, said Alhajj Lutfor Rahman, another haji, adding, “We’ve reached the airport after properly performing Hajj. But we’re waiting for buses for about two hours.”
Many hajis alleged they had to suffer due to the negligence of Hajj agencies and muallems.  Meanwhile, Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport authorities have opened the concourse hall for visitors to arriving passengers.  The departure concourse hall will also be opened for visitors in phases, they said.  The  authorities imposed an embargo on visitors after a deadly militant attack at Holey Artisan Café in Gulshan in July.
