Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team will resume their second phase training camp for the upcoming Under-19 Asia Cup. The forthcoming edition for the youth cricketers is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka in December.
In a bid to hold practice session, they will travel to Cox's Bazar for two-week-long training camp on September 23. The training camp will start on September 24 following players' reporting. During their stay in Cox's Bazar they will play two 3-dayers and two one dayers amongst them. All the preparation matches will be held at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (SKICS).
The players were asked to report to their head coach Abdul Karim Jewel on September 22. The first match of the tour will be played at the SKICS on September 26, just two days after the outset of the training camp. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) meanwhile trimmed the 34-member provisionary squad to 26 following some practice matches that were held at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) during their first phase training camp. This time the board will also shorten the squad, who will practice round the year till the next ICC U-19 World Cup to be held in New Zealand in 2018. In this regard, BCB game development senior manager AEM Kawser said that they have chalked out a comprehensive plan for the team so that they could practice and play matches without any difficulty.
"We've finished the first phase at BKSP before the Eid vacation. Now we'll start our second phase in Cox's Bazar, where two 3-dayers coupled with two one dayers will be played," said Kawser. "The first match of this phase will be kick started on September 26, just three days after the onset of their training," he told The Independent yesterday. "We have Under-19 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka in December. But the fixtures and itinerary have not fixed yet. Actually our ultimate target is to form a well-balanced team for the next ICC U-19 World Cup," the game development senior manager told in response to a query.
