Rizvi gets bail in four cases
The High Court yesterday granted an interim bail to BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in four cases filed over creating violence in Pallabi and Mirpur police stations.
In response to separate bail pleas, the HC bench of justices Rezaul Haque and Khasruzza-man passed the order.
However, Rizvi was not released from jail as he was accused in eight other cases, his counsel Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon told reporters.
In response to a query, Leon said that his client had earlier secured bail in five cases. A total of 17 cases were filed against him this year, he added.
Among the four cases, three were filed with Mirpur police and the other with Pallabi police, under the Special Powers and Explosives Act.
Police arrested Rizvi, joint secretary general of the BNP, on January 31 amid BNPs violent and indefinite countrywide transport blockade. He had been making statements supporting strikes and the blockade from his hideout.
During the hearing, Advocate Zainul Abedin appeared for Rizvi while Deputy Attorney General Fazlur Rahman for the state.
