DMP realises Tk 4.75 lakh fine
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) traffic department realised Tk 4,75,800 in fine and filed 2800 cases against the owners and drivers of the vehicles on charge of violating traffic rules and regulations in the capital.
DMP collected this fined money and filed the cases in a drive on Monday, DMP said. A total of 40 vehicles were dumped and 344 vehicles were wrecker during the drive. The cases were filed for violating traffic rules, driving on wrong side, using black glasses, sirens, beacons and hydraulic horn, the sources added.
Man dies from snakebite
A middle aged man, wSuvillage in Bagha upazila on September 14, died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Dulal Hossain, 40, son of Azizul Islam of the village. Dulal, who was undergoing treatment at the hospital, died around 2:30pm, said assistant sub-inspector Moniruzzaman Monir, also in-charge of the RMCH police camp. Family members said a venomous snake bit Dulal while she was sleeping in his bed on September 14. Later, he was whisked off to the RMCH in a critical condition.
Shibir leader held
Police arrested a local leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir from Khordo Shantipur village in Mithapukur upazila on Monday morning.
The arrestee was identified as Yunus Ali, 25, son of Shafiul Alam, a resident of the village. Police sources said tipped off, a team of police raided the house of Yunus in the area and arrested him in the morning. The arrestee was wanted in eight cases filed with different police stations.
2 killed in separate incidents
Two persons, including a youth, were killed in separate incidents in different area in the city on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Saleh Ahmed (75), hailed from Eidgah area under Halishahor thana in the city and Arman Hossain (18), hailed from Kachuai area under Patiya upazila of the district.
Saleh Ahmed was injured when a city service bus knocked him at Dewanhat area in the city at 10 am today, police sources said. The injured Saleh Ahmed was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries after admission. In separate incident, dead body of youth Arman Hossain was found after a few unidentified persons beat him severely over previous enmity at Kachuai digirpar area under Patiya upazila of the district earlySunday, police said.
68 arrested in Ctg
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) in overnight drives arrested 68 people for different charges from Chittagong city’s separate places during the last 24 hours.
Police also seized 5,468 pieces of yaba tablets, one kilogram ganza and 14-liter liquor during the drive, CMP sources said. A total of 10 cases were filed in these connections.
Two arrested with yaba
The officials of Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) detained an alleged drug peddler along with 2,000 contraband yaba tablets from city’s Panchlaish and Sadarghat area yesterday.
The arrestee was identified as Dil Mohammad, 45, hailed from Ukhia upazila of Cox’s Bazar district. “Acting on trip-off a team of DNC detained Dil Mohammad from Sadarghat area and seized 2,000 yaba tablets from his possession,” said Md Ali Aslam Hossain, deputy director of DNC of Chittagong metro region.
25 ‘drug peddlers’ arrested
Police in separate drives in the capital yesterday has arrested 25 ‘drug peddlers’ and recovered different types of narcotics from their possessions.
Members of different police stations and teams of detective branch (DB) of police carried out the raids from 6am to 6pm yesterday, a police release said. Police recovered 479 yaba tablets, 100 sedative injections, one kilogramme ganja and 280 grammes of heroin.
