Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) recalled off-spinner Sohag Gazi for the two-match Twenty20 international Npoly Cricket series against South Africa yesterday.
Pace sensation Taskin Ahmed and Mahmudullah Riyad ruled out of the Twenty20 squad due to their injuries. Riyad is still recovering from a finger injury, which made him out of the Test and ODIs against India in the last home series. Pacer Taskin is also out with his side strain.
After his bowling action was cleared by ICC in February this year, Sohag was recalled for the first time. He replaced injured Mahmuddullah Riyad.
Gazi last played Twenty20 for Bangladesh against Australia in April, 2014. The right-handed off-break represented Bangladesh in 9 Twenty20 matches, where he scalped four wickets with the best of 1-28. The 24-year-old played 10 Tests and 20 one-day internationals for Tigers.
Sohag’s bowling action was suspected during the Tigers’ West Indies tour in August last year. He was cleared by ICC in second effort in Chennai on February 7 though he was failed in his first attempt in Edinburgh. Later, he performed in the National Cricket League and Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League  “I feel glad to come back in the team. My best effort along with luck favoured me much to return to the fold again. It is too difficult to come back in the team at the current moment. I’ll try my best to prove myself,” Sohag Gazi said in his reaction. Jubair Hossain Likhon on the other hand played Test and ODI earlier for Bangladesh but this was his maiden call-up for Twenty20.
The youngster played four Tests and two one-day international matches for Bangladesh. “I feel excited to get place in the Twenty20 squad for the first time. I will try my utmost best to bowl well. Hopefully I could bowl in the right areas and fetch breakthrough for the team in the crucial moment,” said Zubaer Hossain in his reaction.
“We wanted a specialist off-spinner. And so we picked Sohag Gazi, who played well in the last NCL and Premier League. He was out for some months but he is now back with new action,” BCB chief selector Faruque Ahmed said. Squad: Mashrafe Mortaza (capt), Tamim lqbal, Litton Das, Rony Talukdar, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Nasir Hossain, Arafat Sunny, Jubair Hossain, Sohag Gazi, Rubel Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman.
