A mobile court yesterday fined several outlets, including chain shop Meena Bazar and Muslim Sweets and Bakery, in the capital for selling adulterated and substandard consumer products.
Bangladesh Standard Testing Institute (BSTI), which conducted the drive in Paltan, Motijheel, Arambagh and Shantinagar areas, relaised Tk 5.5 lakh during an anti-adulteration drive.
Meena Bazar, Muslim Sweets and Bakery outlets, Tangail Sweets and Bakery, Gharoa restaurant, Korai Gost, Russ Department Store, and Cash and Curry Farm were fined under the Consumer Rights Protection Act.
The Meena Bazar outlet at Shantinagar has been fined Tk 1.6 lakh and warned for selling packaged fish and meat without any expiry date written on the packs.
Two outlets of Muslim Sweets and Bakery were fined Tk 20,000 each, Korai Gost was fined Tk 1 lakh for selling unhygienic iftar items, Tangail Sweets and Bakery was fined Tk 20,000, Gharoa hotel Tk1.5 lakh for using burnt oil and stale food. Russ Departmental Store and Cash and Curry were fined Tk 40,000 each for displaying date-expired items.
