Pirojpur: A court yesterday sentenced four people to death and three others to life term imprisonment for killing a man in 1998, reports UNB.
The court also fined the convicts Tk 15,000 each, in default, to suffer one month more rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution, Badal Sardar of North Bhitabaria village was stabbed to death by the convicts on September 1, 1998 following previous enmity.
Jalal Sardar, father of the victim, filed a case accusing 15 people with Bhandaria police station. Of the 15 accused, two died during the trial. Later, the High Court ordered to transfer the case to Jhalakati District and Sessions Judge court in 2013.
After examining the records and witnesses Jhalakati District and Sessions Judge SM Solaiman handed down the verdict acquitting five other accused.
The condemned convicts are -- Shahid Shikdar, Dulal Shikdar, Badal Shikdar and Nizam Shikdar of North Bhitabaria village in Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur district. Of them Nizam was tried in absentia.
The lifers are -- Harun Shikdar, Salam Shikdar and Minu Shikdar.
