English cricket team’s tour of Bangladesh

That Bangladesh is facing a milestone transformation in its cricketing history is apparent. Just when the air of uncertainty hung thick over England’s tour of Bangladesh due to the terror attack in Gulshan in last July, many had thought the tour would be cancelled.
Instead, by defying all doubt and suspicion, the English cricket team has confirmed the scheduled tour of Bangladesh in October 2016 to play three One Day Internationals (ODIs), two Test matches and three tour matches. The team is likely to land in Bangladesh by the end of the month. Though England’s one-day captain, an opening batsman, is reported to have boycotted the tour on safety and security grounds, but otherwise, the majority of England's players have agreed to tour Bangladesh. This also shows why a player’s individual decision in a team significantly matters. Thanks to the collective conscience of ECB and its responsible players.
The tour, however, on the one hand would boost the morale of team Bangladesh while on the other, as far as security is concerned, it is a unique opportunity to prove to the world that playing cricket in Bangladesh is more than safe. We should not anyhow allow militancy and terrorism to tarnish our global cricketing status. And in order to ensure that, we call for an all-out effort to the government – as well as the sensible public – to make England’s tour of Bangladesh a shining example of safe touring.
Regarding big teams coming to Bangladesh, it was once taken for granted that, whatever the format, Bangladesh would lose. Also no country has ever made a worst start in Test cricket than Bangladesh, who lost 26 of their first 27 Tests, mostly by enormous margins. However, that stigma of defeat has faded enough - at least, in the formats of one day and T-20. Team Bangladesh recently offered eye-catching individual innings and partnerships, and its fast bowling department has significantly improved while winning a number of one-day series in the home grounds. Also, the overall quality of Bangladesh cricket has vastly improved since 2010. We believe that our national team including the two new uncapped players in the team will prove it right by giving their best.
Lastly, England’s five-week tour of Bangladesh will be assessed from different perspectives by the international cricket community, so we believe our concerned  authorities for organising the tour would run the extra to ensure that it is a success.
