Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury said the government has undertaken a project of Tk10.60 crore aimed at supplying riper and rice planter to farmers free of cost in haor areas, reports BSS.
“The government has decided to introduce modern technology for quick harvesting and reducing risk of farmers in haor areas,” she said while addressing a press briefing in her ministry conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat.
The minister said the government is committed to providing all out support to haor farmers for minimising their sufferings in the Boro paddy cultivation season.
The government would supply 275 riper, one riper in each union, and 100 rice planters, one for three unions, under the programme.
She said the government would provide training to 1,980 people, of them 1000 farmers, 420 mechanics/drivers, 500 sub-assistant agriculture officer (SAAO) and 60 agriculture officers. The purpose of the initiative is to reduce the cultivation cost by using modern tools, reduce cultivation time and increase the earnings of the farmers, she said.
The minister said, “Farmers in wetland areas of the country’s will get ‘rice planter’ and ‘reaper machine’ free of cost as the fund will be allocated from the government’s agriculture rehabilitation programme.”
She said the government will provide agriculture machineries worth Tk10 crore and 60 lakh to farmers of the country’s wetland areas to reduce their sufferings in Boro paddy cultivation season.
Among others, secretary of the ministry Shyamol Kanti Ghosh, additional secretary and director general of seed department Anwar Faruque and additional secretary Mosharraf Hossain and officials concerned were present in the briefing.
