Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) officially called on three foreign players to discuss about their citizenship of Bangladesh.
BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag and national team manager Amirul Islam Babu had a meeting with Ismail Bangoura of Guinea, Nkwocha Kingsley Chiogozie of Nigeria and Samad Yussif of Ghana.
Shohag after discussion with the players talked to the reporters, while he said that they have a long discussion about the players’ citizenship then asked them to submit the photocopies of their passports.
“We talked to them with different issues regarding their citizenship and asked them to submit their passports and we will move the papers to the Home Ministry.”
“Hopefully the process will complete as early as possible and we are expecting to complete all the procedure by two months, before the home match against Australia and away match against Jordan.”
“It is our beginning with these three players, if we will have talented players, the option will be opened in future also.”
“I don’t think so, it does not mean that the local players are ignored. We are trying to give citizenship to the players, in which position we have weakness,” Shohag replied to a query.
Samad Yussif, when he was expressing his feelings said, “Bangladesh is second home to me. After joining Abahani Club seven years ago, since then most of the times I have been living here, very rare I have been in Ghana.”
“In fact, now a days I feel very homely here in Bangladesh than I feel in Ghana and I will try to give the best of my career for Bangladesh. It’s true,” said Samad Yussif, who has been playing for Abahani as central defender for last seven years.
“I think if we get the citizenship, both the party will be benefited. As, we will have the opportunity to play for a national team, it is a great and rare privilege to have the scope to represent a national team.”
“All of us, of course will try to give our 100 percent for the country (Bangladesh), so obviously Bangladesh will also be benefited,” said Samad.
Ismail Bangoura, who is playing for Mohammedan Sporting Club this season, said, “All over the world the procedure is recognised. Some of the Middle East countries, European countries are giving citizenship to foreign players. It is well for Bangladesh football. My family is happy to know this message,” said Ismail Bangoura.
“My feelings are very excellent. I think it is big honour for me, I will feel proud if I will have the opportunity to play for Bangladesh national side,” the Guinean added.
Nkowcha Kingsley, who signed for Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra said, “Of course I feel honoured, coach and BFF choose me for their national team. It is a great honour having chance to play for a national team, Bangladesh is giving me that rare opportunity, so obviously I will try to give my 100 percent to honour them.”
