‘Arms trader’ arrested
OUR CORRESPONDENT, Chapainawabganj: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested an alleged arms trader with two pistols, four magazines and six rounds of bullet from Raninagar Hatatpara area in Shibganj upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon.
The arrested was identified as Md Ahsan Ali, 45, of Raninagar Ghontola village in the upazila.
RAB sources said acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-5  raided the said area at around 2:30 pm and arrested Ahsan. Ahsan had been involved in the illegal arms business and RAB’s detective branch kept him under watch for a long time, the sources added.
Ahsan admitted his involvement in the illegal arms trading in the primary interrogation, sources added.

Farmers get hybrid paddy seeds

Bangladesh Rice Research Institute Barisal office distributed newly invented Aman high yielding variety paddy seeds BRRI Dhan-62 among a total of 300 farmers free of cost in the current season.  
Under the programme they already distributed zinc enriched BRRI Dhan-62 among 100 farmers free of cost, in Daulatkhan upazila at a function held at the Jalilia Dakhil Madrasha premises on Tuesday.
The distribution function was presided over by Marium Begum agriculture officer of Borhanuddin upazila.
While chief scientific officer of BRRI Barisal office Dr Alamgir Hossain said the newly invented rice is zinc enriched which is benefited for the health of mother and child. Besides, the paddy yield is more than the other varieties and pest infestation is also lower compared to other varieties.

Scholarship for poor students
OUR CORRESPONDENT, Bogra

Bogra Sadar upazial parishad awarded scholarship to the poor and meritorious students on Tuesday afternoon.
A total of 153 students of different schools from class VI to XII in Bogra sadar upazila were awarded the scholarship at a meeting where Shadar upazila chairman Ali Azgar Talukdar Hena was in the chair.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sahana Akhter distributed scholarships among the students as chief guest while Md Arafat Rahman, assistant commissioner (land) of Sadar upazila, upazila education officer Shahnewaz Parvin, principal of BIAM Model School and College Mostafizur Rahman were present as special guests.

Youth held with hand bombs
Detective branch of police arrested a young man in possession of two hand bombs from Nalda Bazar in Sadar upazila on Tuesday night, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Abdul Wazed, 35, a resident of Kodali village of the upazila.
Sub-inspector of Pabna DB police Joyonto Chakrabarty said on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in the area and arrested Wazed at about 10:30 pm.
The law enforcers also recovered two hand bombs from his possession.

Body recovered in Magura
Police recovered the body of a lift mechanic from Berakchi village under Magura Sadar upazila on Tuesday night, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Baki Billah, 40, of Patkhali village of the upazila. Being informed, police rushed to the village and recovered the body from a jute field and sent to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy, said officer-in-Charge of Sadar police station Asaduzzaman.
A case was filed in this connection.
