Shakib Al Hasan was displaced to the top of the ICC’s T20 all-rounders lists as Australia’s Glenn Maxwell grabbed the place for the first time in his career. Maxwell, who smashed aggressive knocks of 145 not out and 66 in the two-match series against Sri Lanka in Pallekele and Colombo that his team won 2-0, has also made a giant leap in T20 batsmen’s ranking, placing him in his career best third position.
Bangladesh’s prodigious all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who once grabbed number one position in all three format’s rankings for the all-rounder, now just retained his place in ODI all-rounder rankings. Earlier he lost his Test all-rounder spot to India’s Ravichandran Ashwin.
Maxwell now leads Shakib in T20 rankings by huge 42 rating points. Bangladesh won’t play any T20 match in this year and so Shakib has little chance to regain his place. His only hopes are lying on the worst performance of his competitors in this format.
Bangladesh are now scheduled to play against Afghanistan and England at home in which no T20 matches are scheduled. They will visit New Zealand in the last week of December this year and two T20 matches are scheduled in that tour which will be held January next year. Only then Shakib can give a shot to regain his place.
Maxwell has also gained16 places in the batsmen’s rankings, which is led by India’s Virat Kohli with Australia’s Aaron Finch in second place. Kohli is comfortably placed with 820 points but Maxwell has moved to 763 points, just eight less than Finch.
Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal has moved up four places to 60th rank in the batsmen’s list with scores of 58 and four in the two matches while his team-mate Chamara Kapugedera has moved up 18 slots to reach 72nd rank after scoring 43 and seven.
Tillakaratne Dilshan, a former top-ranked batsman (in June 2009), has retired at 19th rank. In the all-rounders’ list he is in15th position after playing his last match in Colombo and is ranked 119th in the bowlers’ list. His best rank as an all-rounder was fifth in March 2012 while as a bowler his highest rank was 18th in January 2007.
