Two schoolgirls drown

Two schoolgirls drowned in the Dhakatia River in Raipur upazila of Laxmipur yesterday.
The victim was identified as Shamima Akter, 12, hailing from Udmara village. She was a student of class four at Dakkhin Udmara Govt Primary School of the upazila and 10-year-old Fatema Akter.
Police said Shamima and Fatema went to the Dakatia River to take bath in the morning. They swam up to the middle of the river and at one stage they drowned.
Sub-inspector of Raipur Police Station Rafiqul Islam said local people rescued Shamima’s body. Fire fighters are trying to rescue the body of Fatema.
