As elsewhere in the country, blacksmiths in the district are busy making different sharp tools for slaughtering sacrificial animals and preparing their flesh, with the Eid-ul-Azha approaching.
The sources said a large number of buyers from different parts of the district are crowding daily at the shops of blacksmiths to make different iron-made sharp weapons including knives, choppers, cleaver and axe or sharpening their old iron-made weapons.
Nazrul Islam, a blacksmith at Kamarpara area in the Shibganj village under Sadar upazila, said they are passing very hard time for various reasons including price hike of raw materials like cast-irons and charcoals and increasing use of steel-made materials instead of iron- made weapons.
According to the sources, choppers are being sold at Tk 200 to Tk 600, machetes are selling at Tk 300 to Tk 900, butcher knives at Tk 100 to Tk 400, small knives at Tk 50 to Tk 100 and cleavers at Tk 250 to Tk 450.
