4 snatchers arrested, policeman stabbed

Police arrested four members of an organised gang of snatchers from Mymensingh town’s Baghmara and Krishtapur areas early yesterday.
Emdadul Kabir, 30, assistant sub-inspector was also stabbed by a snatcher and was admitted at Mymensingh Medical College Hopsital (MMCH).
The arrestees are Rezaul Karim, 27, Khorshed Alam Babu, 20, Sumon, 24, and Biplob, 20.
Police said, when Rezaul and his gang members were snatching belongings of eid goers from town’s Krishtapur area, the victims raised hue and cry early yesterday. On information, a patrol police team immediately rushed to the spot and caught Rezaul after a chase, said Kamrul Islam, OC of Kotwali Police Station.
Rezaul stabbed Kabir with a knife to flee from police custody, said police.  Police fired several rounds of bullets to stop Rezaul and he sustained injuries, police said.  He was also admitted at MMCH.  Police also arrested three other snatchers from Baghmara area.
