Youth hacked dead
A young man was hacked to death by some unidentified miscreants at Mandail in Keraniganj upazila on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rubel, 24, son of Rabiullah, a resident of Najarganj village in the upazila.
Sub-inspector Oliar Rahman of Keraniganj Model Police Station said a group of miscreants hacked Rubel over previous enmity around 8:30am, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, police rushed in and sent the body to hospital morgue, the SI added.
Corporate training for East Coast Group
Effective English Development Programme (EEDP), a professional business consultancy, completed a month long Business Communication Corporate Training for East Coast Group, a local corporate giant on Thursday, says a press release.
Ms. Reshma Mohsen (Chairperson- EEDP) and Ms. Dilruba Chowdhury (Director, Corporate Planning-East Coast Group) were present during the certification of the participants upon successful completion of the course.
Ticket black marketer held
Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) in a drive arrested a train ticket black-marketer with 22 tickets from citys Reazuddin Bazar area on Friday night. The arrested Delowar Hossain, 32, hails from Akhalia area under Madhabdi Thana of Narsingdi district.
A team of DB, CMP, conducted a drive at Chaitonya Lane area of Reazuddin Bazar at around 11 pm and arrested Delowar with 22 train tickets, said Illias Khan, Sub- Inspector (SI) of the DB, CMP.
Delowar in connivance with some railway employees used to collect railway tickets and sell them at higher prices, the DB officer said adding that a case was filed in this connection.
Kidnapped baby rescued
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued a kidnapped baby and arrested two persons in this connection from Naodapara area under Motihar Police Station in the city on Friday, RAB sources said in Rajshahi.
The arrested persons were identified as Abdul Hai Shibly, 29, and his wife Shefali Begum, 26, of Meherchandi area under the same police station.
Squadron Leader Mubaswer Rahim of RAB said the couple kidnapped Ahsan Habib Siam, 6, from their residence on Wednesday last and demanded ransom of Taka 13 lakh from his parents. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a raid and arrested the couple and rescued the baby from there this noon.
VGF rice to be distributed in Khulna on Eid
KHULNA: The government has allotted over 1,746 tonnes of rice for distribution among 1, 74,626 VGF (vulnerable group feeding) cardholders in nine upazilas and two pourasabhas of the district on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Sources with Khulna District Relief and Disaster Management department said a total of 349 tonnes of rice will be distributed among 34,985 cardholders of Dakop upazila, 317 tonnes among 31,758 cardholders of Batiaghata upazila, 183 tonnes among 18,393 cardholders of Dighalia upazila, 280 tonnes among 28,021 cardholders of Rupsha upazila, 49 tonnes among 4,941 cardholders of Phultala upazila, 108 tonnes among 10,822 cardholders of Koyra upazila, 136 tonnes among 13,690 cardholders of Paikgachha upazila, 79 tonnes among 7,959 cardholders of Terokhada upazila and 163 tonnes among 16,395 cardholders of Dumuria upazila.
