2 ‘Ansarullah men’ held in Gazipur

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two suspected members of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) from Chowrasta area in Gazipur district early Saturday, reports UNB. Among the arrestees, one was identified as Rashedul Islam alias Swapan, 24, chief coordinator of Gazipur district ABT, and another as Biplob Hossain alias Hujaifa, 33.
Senior Assistant Superin-tendent of Police Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan of the media wing of the RAB Headquarters said tipped off, a team of RAB-1 conducted a drive in the area that started around 23:40 and arrested the duo in the dead of night.
They were planning to attack Kashimpur Jail to release Jashimuddin Rahmani and other ABT members, said another official of the RAB Headquarters.
Meanwhile, during preliminary interrogation, Swapan revealed that he became a fan of banned Islamist outfit JMB’s Jasim Uddin Rahmani hearing his oratory through internet in March, 2014.
Later, he was introduced to a man known as Abdul Quddus when he was a garment employee, and through him Swapan got involved in ABT’s activities, said a Rab-1 officer.
