Bangladesh in its bid to retain the bronze medal is going to participate in the 3rd World Cup Kabaddi to be held in Ahmedabad, India from October 7-22.
A total of 12 countries, including hosts India will take part in the World Cup Kabaddi, the biggest competition of the game.
Bangladesh, in a bid to preserve their bronze medal are taking part with an inadequate preparation when they began their camp from August 26 with 20 players after picking up them from 40 players’ preliminary camp which was held for one week.
General secretary of the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BKF) Nazrul Islam, when talking to this correspondent yesterday said that they picked up some promising players from the IGP Cup National Championship held early of this year.
Nazrul said, “We organised the IGP Cup from the Thana level when the champions moved into the district level and the district champions played in the divisional phase and final round, from that tournament, we picked up 40 players and had a camp for one week.”
“We made selection of 20 players who have been taking preparation and from them the final 14 men will be selected to play in the World Cup,” said Nazrul.
Shuvirmol Das, coach of the national team is not at all satisfied with the preparation as he expressed his disappointment when talking to this correspondent yesterday.
The veteran coach said, “Actually it is very tough to take part in a competition like World Cup with short time preparation.”
“You know, we started the camp from August 26 and the competition will begin from October 7, by this time players have already gone for Eid vacation, overall it is very much short time to prepare  the World Cup. In fact the hosts India also let us know the schedule within a short notice, so we had no way to organise a long term camp.”
“So nothing to do, our target is just to maintain the first two editions results of winning the bronze medal,” said Das.
About his team, Das informed that he has seven experienced players and as many young, including three players played in the recently concluded India Pro Kabaddi tournament.
“In fact I have good team comprising with young and experienced but we did not have time to practice for long time,” said Bangladesh coach.
Nazrul, the general secretary thinks defending gold medal winners India are the top favourites and said, “India have been dominating in the World Kabaddi, they won both the first and the second edition of the World Cup Kabbadi gold, our target is to retain the bronze.”
