Two crushed under train
GAZIPUR: Two people, including a girl, were crushed to death under the wheels of a running train near Joydebpur railway station in the city early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Motaleb, 70, a resident of Sahapara area of the city, and Hawa, 12, a resident of Sripur upazila of the district.
Sub-inspector of Joydebpur Railway Police Dadan Miah said the duo was run over by a Dhaka-bound train ‘Jamuna Express’ near Joydebpur railway station and died on the spot while they were crossing the rail track at about 4:30 am. Later, the railway police recovered the bodies and sent those to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed in this connection.
Rickshaw van puller killed
KHULNA: A rickshaw van puller was beaten to death over a trifling matter at Banargati in the city on Tuesday evening.
The deceased was identified as Lalu Hawladar, 65, a resident of Barachaka in the city.
Officer-in-charge of Sonadanga police station Maruf Ahmed said Lalu had a minor clash with a bicycle rider at Banargati around 7pm. Following this, bicycle rider Babu allegedly beat him with a stick, leaving him injured.
Later, he was rushed to a hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead. Police arrested Babu and a case was filed in this connection, the OC added.
Road mishap kills one
RAJSHAHI: One person was killed and three others were injured when an auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a tractor at Baya Bazar area on Rajshahi-Naogaon highway under Shah mukhdum Police Station in the city yesterday, police and hospital sources said.
The deceased was identified as Milon Hossain, 24, son of Muktar Ali of Rasulpur village under Durgapur Upazila of the district. The injured two of them identified as Muktar Hossain, 28, and Shahabuddin Sheikh, 27.
