Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leaves here for London on September 14 en route to Canada and the United States on a 12-day official visit to the two North American countries. Sheikh Hasina will first pay a four-day official visit to Canada to attend the Fifth Replenishment Conference of the Global Fund (GF) in her first leg of the tour and then will go to the USA to join the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told UNB. Canada hosts the GF’s Replenishment Conference to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Montreal, Quebec, on September 16-17.
A GF statement earlier said the conference will bring global health leaders together to further mobilise efforts to end the epidemics of three of the world’s most devastating diseases - AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria - by 2030. A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage is scheduled to take off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for London at 9:50 am on September 14.
The flight is expected to reach Heathrow International Airport in the British capital at 4:05 pm (London time) the same day and after the overnight stopover in London, the Prime Minister will leave for the Canadian city of Montreal by Air Canada at 2:05 pm (London time) on September 15.
The flight is scheduled to reach Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, Montreal at 4:15 pm (Montreal time) the same day when the Bangladesh leader will be received by a Canadian federal minister and Bangladesh High Commissioner in Ottawa Mizanur Rahman.
After the reception at the airport, Sheikh Hasina will be escorted by a ceremonial motorcade to Hotel Omni Mont-Royal, Montreal where she will be staying during her visit to Canada. On September 16, she would attend the opening of the Replenishment Conference to be held at Hyatt Regency Montreal. She will later join the Ministerial Pledging Moment and official reception of the conference with other heads of state and government at the same hotel in the afternoon.
Hasina will also attend the official dinner to be hosted by her Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau at Hyatt Regency Montreal. On September 17, she will join the last-day opening of the conference along with the Canadian Prime Minister and Global Fund Executive Director Mark Dybal.
On the same day, she will attend the Panel Discussion-1, titled ‘Removing Barriers to Health through Empowering Women and Girls and Reaching the Most Marginalised’ and the Panel Discussion-2, titled ‘Engaging and Mobilising Youth to Meet the Sustainable Development Goals’.
The Prime Minister will join the official lunch to be jointly hosted by the Canadian prime minister and Governor General of Canada Rt. Hon. David Johnston. She will later attend the closing session of the conference. The Bangladesh Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with Trudeau.
She will also enjoy a concert along with other heads of state and government to be organised by Global Fund and Global Citizen. On September 18, Sheikh Hasina will leave Montreal for New York by an Air Canada flight at 1:40 pm (Local time). The flight is scheduled to reach La Guardia Airport, New York at 3 pm (Local time).
Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mohammad Ziauddin and Bangladesh Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Masud Bin Momen will welcome her at the airport.
After the reception at the airport, Hasina will be escorted through a ceremonial motorcade to Hotel Waldorf Astoria, New York where she will be staying during her New York tour.
On September 19, the Bangladesh Prime Minister will deliver the country statement at a high-level plenary meeting of the General Assembly on Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants at the UN Headquarters.
She will co-chair Roundtable 5 ‘Global Compact for Safe, Regular and Orderly Migration: Towards Realizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Achieving Full Respect for the Human Rights of Migrants’. On September 20, Hasina will attend the opening session of the General Debate of the 71st session of the UNGA.
She will later join the Asian Leaders’ Forum on Countering Terrorism to be hosted by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at Hotel Marriot Eastside.
On the sidelines, the Prime Minister will also attend an event on South-South and Triangular Cooperation in Scaling up Innovation in Public Service Delivery to be organised by Bangladesh, UN Office for South-South Cooperation at the Conference Room 2 of the UN Headquarters.
She is expected to attend the Leaders’ Summit on Refugees to be organised by US President Barak Obama. Hasina is likely to participate in a reception to be hosted by Obama. On September 21, the Prime Minister is scheduled to join the launching event of the Global Deal Initiative (on enhanced social dialogue for decent work and inclusive growth) to be organised by Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfvén.
Hasina will attend the Meeting of high-level panel on water at the conference room 8 of the UN Headquarters.
The Prime Minister will deliver the statement at the General Debate of the 71st Session of the UNGA at the General Assembly Hall in the afternoon on the day.
She will also attend a luncheon reception to be hosted by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the UN Headquarters and a luncheon meeting to be hosted by the Business Council of International Understanding (BCIU) at Hotel Waldorf Astoria.
Hasina will attend a reception to be organised by the Bangladesh community at Hotel Grand Hyatt, New York on Sept 21 and address a press briefing at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh in New York on September 22.
On the sidelines of the UNGA, she will hold bilateral meetings with a number of heads of state and government, including State Counsellor and Foreign Minister of Myanmar Aung Saan Suu Kyi, President of Switzerland Johann Schneider-Ammann, as well as Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland and the Executive Chairman of World Economic Forum (WEF) and the World Bank president.
On September 22, Hasina will leave New York for Virginia by road and on September 25, she would depart Dulles International Airport, Washington DC for home by an Emirates Airways flight. The flight carrying Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka via Dubai at 5:20 pm on September 26.
