Murder convict arrested
Police in a drive arrested an absconding death-row murder case convict from Bagha upazila headquarters in Rajshahi on Thursday midnight.
Tipped off, a team from Lalpur Police Station conducted a drive in the area and arrested Shaharul, 30, of Raghunathpur village in Lalpur upazila, a death-row convict of a murder case, from the area around 12am.
Shaharul strangled to death Mukti, an eight-year-old daughter of Makram Ali, over a trifling matter on November 6, 2007 and concealed the body underground in his house.
Finding no whereabouts of Mukti, Makram Ali filed a case with Lalpur Police Station.
Police arrested Saharul, a neighbour of Makram, and following a confessional statement of the arrestee, police recovered Mukti’s body from his room.
15 bus passengers injured
Fifteen passengers were injured when a Dhaka bound bus from Barguna dashed a bridge near Barisal University at about10.30am yesterday.
Driver of the bus lost his control over the steering and bus dashed a side of the bridge leaving 15 passengers including driver of the bus injured.
Local people and police rescued the passengers and admitted them to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Attending Doctor Kallyan Mitra said 15 injured passengers were admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and condition of one of them is critical.
No case was filed and none was arrested in this connection. Police has  seized the bus.
Man arrested with arms
A man was arrested along with a foreign pistol and four rounds of bullet early Friday. He was identified as Mohammed Mizanur Rahman alias Milon, 40, son of late Fazlur Rahman of Dori Khojekhani village under Sreepur upazila in the district.
RAB -1 sources said, on a secret information , a team of RAB-1 led by additional police superintendent Mohammed Mohiul Islam  conducted a raid at the house of Mizanur Rahman at Barmi Bus station area of Sreepur upazila and arrested him. The RAB members recovered a foreign pistol, four rounds of bullets and a magazine from his possession.
Two labourers electrocuted
Two solar panel installation workers were electrocuted at Baneshwar Bazar area of the district on Wednesday night, police and locals said.
The deceased were identified as Anisur Rahman, 28, son of Ansar Ali of Shibpur village under the same upazila and Hafizur Rahman, 29, son of Ajahar Ali of Aowpara village under Ishwardi Upazila in Pabna district.
Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Puthiya Police Station, said they met the tragic accident when they came in contact with a 33,000 KV live electric wire.
Five of doping gang arrested
Detective branch (DB) of police on Thursday evening arrested five members of doping gang" from Shoshan Ghat area under Shyampur Police Station in the capital.
Police arrested Syed Solaiman, 38, Md Mahfuz, 24, Md Masud, 38, Golam Mostafa, 47, and Nawab Ali, 46, and recovered some Noctin tablets used for making victims senseless, from their possessions.
The arrestees in primary interrogation confessed that they make people unconscious by making them to drink water, tea or juice, mixing sedatives in the drinks and mugging them clean.
BNP man held for attacking cops
Police arrested a local BNP leader, who attacked police during a BNP-enforced hartal, with a firearms from Patiya Upazila in Chittagong yesterday.
The arrested was identified as Lutfur Rahman Chowdhury alias Lutu, 37, son of Late Moulana Hasan, hailed from Molla Para area Ziri village of Patiya Upazila.
Police said Lutfur was arrested with a Light Gun (LG) from Molla Para area in connection with three cases filed against him for attacking on-duty police in Shantirhat area under Patiya Upazila during a hartal.
