Rajshahi, July 1: The tailors are now passing very busy time ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival in Rajshahi.
Already many of them have stopped taking orders. “There has been a sudden rush at the tailoring houses after nonstop downpour from the early Ramzan,”said Bashir Uddin, owner of New Gallery Tailors at Shaheb Bazar of the city.
Bashir further said that he had already picked up extra hands to supply the orders in time.
Some 20 tailors are working in his tailoring shop in day and night.
However; people, especially women and girls, were seen crowding tailoring shops in the city.
Despite availability of readymade garments, demand for tailored garments has not fallen at all, said Jannatul Ferdaus, owner of Smarani Ladies Tailors of Sagarpara area of the city.
“For nice fitting, women and girls come to tailor even if they buy stitched dresses from boutiques,” she said, adding the readymade dresses always need some alteration.
Jesmin Akter Lucky, a housewife, who came to Smarani Ladies Tailors to order salwar kamiz for Eid.
While talking to journalists, she said sometimes she buy readymade garments, but usually she prefers tailoring shops and especially on Eid occasion it is a must.”
Regarding charges, she said tailors charge high during Eid, but it is not unjustified for a better outfit. She said for each set of salwar kamiz it is Tk 250-450.
“Actually the charge depends on the making style and design of the dress,” she added.
Mohammad Nur, owner of FoP Tailors of Jamal Super Market of the city, informed they were getting orders for pants, shirt, suit, safari and kabli.
Nur said that they will continue taking order until the 20th Ramzan. He further said he is not getting time to take rest because of the pressure of work.
Soheli Akter, owner of Soheli Ladies Tailors, said she got a large number of orders last year because of better customer service and delivery support. But this year due to adverse weather conditions, there was not sufficient order till the first week of Ramzan. However; from last three days, there has been sudden rush of customers at her tailors.
“Now we have to face problem to deliver the order due time that is why; we have employed five more to cope with the Eid orders,” she added.
Soheli further said, “The month of Ramzan is good for business. In fact this is the only time we make some profit compared to other months that is why she personally maintains her tailors this time.”
Manik Sheikh, head dressmaker of Soheli Tailors, said tailors in his shop work day and night without any break in order to complete the orders and deliver them in time. He said charges for stitching have gone up a bit for Eid as they have to put in extra effort this time.”
