Natore: Police in a drive arrested an absconding death-row murder case convict from Bagha upazila headquarters in Rajshahi early yesterday, reports UNB. Tipped off, a team from Lalpur Police Station conducted a drive in the area and arrested Shaharul, 30, of Raghunathpur village in Lalpur upazila, a death-row convict of a murder case, from the area around 12am. Shaharul strangled to death Mukti, an eight-year-old daughter of Makram Ali, over a trifling matter on November 6, 2007 and concealed the body underground in his house.
Finding no whereabouts of Mukti, Makram Ali filed a case with Lalpur Police Station in Natore. Police arrested Saharul, a neighbour of Makram, and following a confessional statement of the arrestee, police recovered Mukti’s body from his room. However, Saharul secured bail and went into hiding later. On March 9, this year, a lower court sentenced Shaharul to death for killing Mukti.
