COCAINE SEIZURE

One remanded in Ctg, three held in capital

A Chittagong court yesterday placed Golam Mostafa Sohel, manager of Khan Jahan Ali limited, on a five-day remand in a case field over the seizure of cocaine in an edible-oil consignment at Chittagong Port. Khan Jahan Ali  limited imported the consignment from Bolivia. Metropolitan Magistrate Farid Alam passed the order after police produced Sohel before the court with a five-day remand plea.
Earlier, police had shown arrested Golam Mostafa Sohel in the case filed with Bandar Police Station.
Meanwhile, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials yesterday arrested three people-- Atikur Rahman and Mostafa Kamal and AK Azad—in the capital in connection with the seizure of cocaine.
A team headed by CIID Additional Director General Hussaien Ahmed first identified Zamal, an official of COSCO Bangladesh Shipping Lines Ltd, which was trying to re-export the oil shipment to a third country. With his help, customs detectives arrested Atik, official of Mondol Groups’s export and import division, who was trying to re-export the container.
“Atik was detained from his office at Uttara in the city. With information derived from Atik, police arrested Mostafa and Azad from different areas of the capital, said Ahmed.
Replying to a query, Director General of CIID Mainul Islam Khan said, “Mostafa’s cousin Bakul, currently living in England, instructed him to re-export the container carrying the oil drums from Bangladesh.”
The detainees were helping the smuggling gang only for money, the DG said, adding that more information would be available once the three are grilled.
