Bangladesh crossed the toughest hurdle on their way to be group champions when they came from behind to overpower the Chinese Taipei to win their fourth match in row by 4-2 in the AFC Under-16 Women’s Qualifying match yesterday. Held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, Bangladesh won their successive fourth match as the hosts have to play their last match against a weaker UAE team
After winning the match Bangladesh are on top of the points table with 12 points followed by Chinese Taipei and Iran who earned nine points each.
Bangladesh, despite started with their usual offensive strategy but were a bit shaky as the Taipie girls made the first threat taking the advantage with a counter attack breaking the hosts offside trap.
Su Yu Hsuan scored a beautiful goal from at least 25 yards with a right footer to put Chinese Taipei into lead on 10th minute (1-0).
Trailing by an unexpected goal, Bangladesh girls did not lost their moral and bounced back strongly with sharp attacks.
Playing with pressing football squeezed the opponents’ defence and equalized on 26th minute with Shamsunnahar converted a penalty. This time Chen Jo-Wei took a rush tackle from behind to an onrushing Krishna Rani very close to the post and referee Law Bik Chi of Hong Kong directed for spot kick and Shamsunnahar did no mistake to slam home on 26th minute (1-1).
Chen Jo-Wei also got marching order when referee show the second yellow and red and the Chinese Taipei reduced to 10.
Inspired by the equalizer by Shamsunnahar, Bangladesh kept the momentum and took the lead on 37th minute and this time also captain Krishna Rani was seriously tackled from behind by her Chinese counterpart Su Yu Hsaun and referee did not hesitate to whistle for the second penalty kick and Shamsunnahar converted the successive spot kick on 37th minute (2-1).
Rest of the time it was a story of one way traffic as Bangladesh girls did not allow the strong rivals to make any real threat but increase the winning margin while Krishna Rani and Marzia scored a piece to down Chinese Taipei.
Captain Krishna Rani who was relentless in the first half, scored the third goal on 56th minute with a brilliant finish from a goal-mouth melee off Sanjida cross (3-1).
Marzia extended the lead just from the goal line on 78th minute when the Chinese Taipei girls failed to clear a corner (4-0).
The Chinese Taipei got another consolation when from a counter attack Wu Yu-Jou scored the goal and cropped in from the host defenders (2-4).
Another Chinese Taipei girl saw red card when their defender Teng Pei-Lin pulled jersey of Shopna from behind and referee show her the second yellow and the red.
Earlier on the day, Iran earned another big win in the ongoing AFC Under-16 prequalifying round match thrashing Singapore by 11-0 yesterday.
Iran, who began their campaign with a 0-3 defeat at the hands of hosts Bangladesh, won their next three matches in a row defeating Kyrgyzstan by 9-0 and UAE by 5-0.
However, Fatmeh Makhdoum scored four goals and Fatmeh Ghasemi struck twice, Jalal Nasib, added two while Khoda Parasti and Mariyam Mohamadi also celebrated for once each.
Fatmeh Ghasemi, who is the leading scorer with 10 goals, opened the scoring in 11th minute and doubled the margin for her and the team two minutes later (2-0).
Fatmi Makhdoum netted her four goals on 23rd, 69th, 71st and 84th minute, Jalal Nasibi struck on 22nd and 39th minute.
In the day’s second match UAE defeated Kyrgyzstan by 3-2 to taste their first win in the ongoing competition. UAE, who began the competition with a 2-2 draw with Singapore, suffered defeat in their next two matches and celebrated the hard fought 3-2 victory against Kyrgyzstan.
In the keenly contested match, defender Al Reem Al Baloshi put UAE into lead on 13th minute with a curving free kick but Shakhnoza Ibraimova made it 1-1 for Kyrgyzstan on 37th minute.
Rawan Al Hammadi struck on 40th minute to bring lead for UAE and Kyrgyz midfielder Victoria Dalinger braught the arrear level on 52nd minute (2-2).
Sara Sameeh’s 57th minute strike gave UAE further lead to make it 3-2.
