Indian envoy for spread of Gandhi’s message of peace

Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla yesterday visited Gandhi Ashram in Noakhali and urged all to continue working for the benefit of all sections of society and spread Gandhi’s message of non-violence, peace, tolerance and communal harmony, reports UNB. He said the Gandhi Ashram Trust, Noakhali will continue to work for the benefit of all communities. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader also visited the Ashram.
On arrival at Jayag, Noakhali, senior officials of district administration and local leaders welcomed the minister and the Indian envoy. Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Chittagong Somnath Halder was also present during the visit, said a press release.
The minister and the envoy jointly visited the Gandhi Ashram and inaugurated the newly-constructed building of Gandhi Memorial Institute on the Ashram campus. The school building has been constructed as part of the Gandhi Ashram Trust (GAT) development project financed by the Gandhi Heritage Sites Mission (GHSM) of Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The total cost of development project is Tk. 6.84 crores. Up-gradation of Ashram’s museum and construction of an office-cum-residence of Secretary of Gandhi Ashram Trust are alsopart of the development project. In an event organised following the inauguration of school building in the Ashram, the High Commissioner appreciated the development and charity works of the Gandhi Ashram Trust. He recalled the immense contributions of the Gandhi Ashram Trust to the rural development works in the area.
