Anti-militancy human chains form
Faridpur: Teachers and students of four educational institutions formed separate human chains in different areas of the district protesting militancy and communalism in the name of Islam yesterday morning, reports UNB.
Teachers and students of Westan Medical Institute and MATS formed a human chain in front of their campus in Jhiltuli area of the district town from 11:30am to 12.00pm.
Besides, students of Government Rajendra College held the programme at Shahid Minar, Government Sarda Sundori Mohila College on their campus and National Polytechnic at Jasimuddin Hall.

Restaurant owner electrocuted
HABIGANJ: A restaurant owner was electrocuted at Kibria Bridge area in the district town early yesterday, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Salek Miah, 40, a resident of Umednagar area of the town.
Police said Salek was seriously injured while he came in contact with a live wire at his restaurant.
Local people sent him to Habiganj Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

5 Jamaat men among 36 held
Jhenaidah: Police arrested 36 people, including five activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, in a special drive from different parts of the district on various charges yesterday, reports UNB.
Additional Superintendent of Police Azbahar Ali Sheikh said police conducted a drive in different places of the district from Friday night to Saturday morning and arrested them on various charges.
Among the arrestees, there were five Jamaat men, added the ASP.

Lighting strike kills two boys
Chuadanga: Two schoolboys were killed by a lightning strike at Shibnagar village in Damurhuda upazila on Friday night, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Mamun, 12, son of Matiar Rahman, and Tamim, 10, son of Atiar Rahman, both residents of the village.
Officer-in-Charge of Damurhuda Model Police Station Abu Jihad said Mamun and Tamim were struck by a streak of lightning while the duo was catching fish in Mendar Beel along with Tamim’s father Atiar and his neighbour Ramjan Ali amid drizzle.
Mamun and Tamim died on the spot while Atiar and his neighbour Ramjan Ali were injured.
The injured were rushed to Mujibnagar Upazila Health Complex of Meherpur district.

Absconding Shibir activist arrested
RANGPUR: Police arrested an absconding Islami Chhatra Shibir activist from Mithapukur upazila yesterday, reports BSS.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police for B-Circle Saifur Rahman said Mithapukur police arrested Shibir activist Shahin Mian, 25, from his village Islampur in the upazila yesterday afternoon. The arrested Shibir man had been absconding for a long time.
Earlier, Mithapukur police submitted chargesheet against Shahin Mian in connections with several criminal cases filed against him for his involvements with conducting subversive activities.
Police produced Shahin before a Rangpur court from where he was sent to the jail.

1,600 flood-hit farmers to get incentive
PIROJPUR: A total of 1,600 flood-hit farmers will get cash incentives of Tk over 16 lakh to buy seeds and fertilisers for the cultivation of mungbean, maize in the current season of the district, reports BSS.
The farmers will get cost-free seeds, Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of Potash (MoP) for cultivating maize, mungbean under the programme.
Each of the interested farmers will get Taka 1,290 for maize farming. On the other hand, farmers who intend to cultivate mungbean get five kilograms seeds, 10-kg DAP, 10-kg MOP fertilizer for this purpose.
Arun Ray, deputy assistant officer of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), said the distribution process of incentives will start very soon and hope it will be fair.
