Cattle markets draw buyers in increased number

BARGUNA: With only ten days left for the Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival for the Muslims, cattle selling in the town and six upazilas of the district along with its adjacent areas gained momentum with the turning up of buyers in increased number, reports BSS.
A huge number of sacrificial animals have been gathered for sale at the cattle markets namely Barguna town haat, Purakata haat, Amtali haat, Chunakhali haat, Talukdar haat, Bogi bazar, Taltali haat, Mokamia haat, Karona Bazaar, Pathorghata haat and Bamna haat.
A visit to some of the spots revealed cattle put up for sale in spaces marked with bamboo fences and megaphones being used to invite customers.
Traders said supply of cattle in the markets is plenty and their prices are similar to that in the last Eid-ul-Azha.
The price of a normal-size cow or buffalo varies from
Taka 30,000 to 70,000, and a sheep or goat can be purchased at a price between Taka 5,000 and 20,000 according to
the size. Lease owners of the haats said, currency scanning machines have been installed at some of the markets with a view to resisting the use of fake notes.
Barguna police super Bijoy Bosak said all-out security measures have been taken to check law and order in and around the cattle markets.
