Freedom fighters happy

Freedom fighters in the country yesterday expressed their profound happiness over the execution of top-level war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali. They said the hanging was the victory of the people and justice has been served finally. In an immediate reaction, freedom fighter Major General (Retd) KM Shafiullah lauded the execution of Mir Quasem and said it proved that none is above law.  “Though the Jamaat leader tried to make the war crimes trials controversial using his money and by appointing lobbyists abroad, he would not be able to save himself from the sins he committed during the country’s Liberation War,” said Shafiullah, a sector commander during the liberation war. In an immediate reaction, Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee’s acting chief Shahriar Kabir expressed his profound satisfaction over the execution of Mir Quasem Ali saying that his execution would provide some comfort to the souls of three million martyrs. “We had apprehension that war criminal Mir Quasem will be spared from gallows but it didn’t happen. We feel satisfied but this was expected,” he said. Shahriar Kabir, also a researcher on the Liberation War, said the execution would ease the pain of the martyrs.
