Describing containing militancy as the biggest challenge for the police, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque yesterday urged all to get united against the menace, UNB reports
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at an anti-militancy rally, arranged by district community police, at the newly-built Rahanpur police investigation centre in Gomastapur upazila in the afternoon.
Dismissing the claims of those who termed police drives against militant a drama, he said police had given enough time to the militants to surrender before going for drives in Gulshan and Narayanganj. “However, they hurled bombs at and opened fire on police which prompted the law enforces to retaliate.”
Presided over by Chapainawabganj Police Super TM Mojahidul Islam, the programme was addressed, among others, by local MP Golam Mostasfa Biswas, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (Rajshahi Range) M Khurshid Hossain and deputy commissioner Zahidul Islam.
